Anonymous VPS with a dedicated IP: why the address matters
A no-KYC server is only useful if its IP is not already burned. What a dedicated IPv4 gives you, how to check an address's reputation in two minutes, and what to do if it is listed.
Short answer: a dedicated IP is an IPv4 address used only by your server. Its reputation — blocklists, past abuse, geolocation — decides whether your mail is delivered, whether sites show you captchas and whether your service is reachable at all. Every NoctisNode VPS includes one dedicated IPv4, and you can check its reputation yourself before putting anything on it.
Dedicated vs shared IP
| Dedicated IPv4 | Shared / NAT IP | |
|---|---|---|
| Who uses it | Only your server | Many customers |
| Inbound ports | All yours | Usually limited or forwarded |
| Reputation | Shaped by you | Shaped by every neighbour |
| Hosting a site, mail, VPN | Yes | Often impossible |
Check the reputation of your new IP
- 01.Look the address up on the major DNS blocklists (Spamhaus, Barracuda, SpamCop). A multi-RBL checker does all of them in one query.
- 02.Check geolocation in two or three databases — services choose your language and restrictions from them, and they update slowly.
- 03.Search the address on abuse-reporting sites to see whether it was used for scanning or spam before.
- 04.If you plan to send mail, test deliverability before going live — see the [mail relay guide](/guides/postfix-mail-relay).
If the IP is listed
Most blocklists have a delisting form; a clean server with no ongoing abuse is usually removed within days. If the listing is severe or a geolocation is badly wrong for your use case, open a ticket. Note that cancelling a server and ordering a new one gives you a fresh IPv4, but the address is assigned from the pool, not chosen.
Keep the IP clean
- ▹Do not run open relays, open resolvers or open proxies — they are found by scanners within hours.
- ▹Close every port you do not use and harden SSH — see [SSH hardening](/guides/ssh-hardening).
- ▹Put public services behind a reverse proxy with rate limits — see [Caddy reverse proxy](/guides/caddy-reverse-proxy).
- ▹Watch outbound traffic: a sudden spike usually means a compromised service, and that is what gets an IP listed.
FAQ
QDoes every NoctisNode VPS have a dedicated IP?
AYes. Every VPS plan includes one dedicated IPv4 with full root and unmetered 1 Gbps, starting at $6 per 28 days.
QIs a dedicated IP more anonymous than a shared one?
ANot by itself. Anonymity comes from how you sign up and pay. A dedicated IP gives you control over reputation and ports, which a shared IP cannot.
QCan I choose or keep a specific IP?
ANo. The IPv4 is assigned from the pool at deployment and stays with the server for its lifetime; a new server gets a new address.
